A new airline in India, FLY91, plans to start operations later this year and has revealed its logo and tagline. The carrier wants to take advantage of the growing demand for regional air travel in the country and is said to be targeting destinations in southern and western India.
First look
FLY91, a startup Indian airline with regional ambitions, recently had a brand reveal in which it provided the first look of its logo and tagline. Explaining its logo – a flying butterfly – FLY91 said that it is symbolic of India’s “mesmerising beauty and vibrant diversity.” Its tagline – Bharat Unbound – seems to suggest the significant untapped opportunity in India for air travel. The company said,
The airline is being helmed by former executive vice president at Kingfisher Airlines Manoj Chacko, who has partnered with Harsha Raghavan, former head of Fairfax India. Raghvan is also said to have provided an initial investment of ₹2 billion ($24.2 million) through his investment firm Convergent Finance.
The idea to start a new airline reportedly came to Chacko when he worked for Kingfisher and saw the airline develop regional links using ATR aircraft to cities such as Hubli, Kolhapur, and Shimla. But plans to form an airline started taking shape only in the last three years.
Betting on regional demand
FLY91, which gets its name from India’s country code 91, will be based out of the new North Goa airport and will also have its headquarter in the west Indian state. The airline wants to enhance air connectivity from tier 2 and tier 3 towns across India through affordable flights with a non-complex business model.
Chacko had said earlier that they will focus on transporting people from point A to B safely, comfortably, and in the most economical way. The airline wants to keep things simple and stick to the basics and do them extremely well and not try to reinvent the wheel where not necessary.
