Singapore Changi Airport broke through the 80% recovery barrier in March when it handled 4.63 million passenger movements. This was 82.2% of the 5.63 million that passed through the airport in March 2019, the first time since the pandemic arrived it had exceeded 80% recovery.

With airline capacity rapidly bouncing back to pre-COVID levels in Asia, the flow on benefit is now being felt at the region’s premier hub, Singapore Changi Airport. With no domestic market to keep things ticking over, the airport has suffered more than most during the pandemic, falling from a high of 68.3 million passengers in 2019 to just 3 million in 2021.

Numbers started to grow in 2022

Last year passenger numbers recovered to 32.2 million, and with this year off to a solid start, the signs are promising for a strong second-half recovery toward pre-COVID levels. In 2022 Singapore Airlines had the highest number of passenger movements, followed by (in order) Scoot, Jetstar Asia, AirAsia and Qantas.
