Stricken Indian low-cost carrier Go First needs more time to revive its operation. The airline confirmed on Friday that flight cancellations will be pushed back to later this month.
Citing operational reasons, Go First expects flights to resume on May 24th. The news comes just days after the airline said that flights would be canceled until May 19th.
Postponed again
In a notice to all passengers, Go First acknowledged extending its flight cancellations.
Since the carrier expects to return to a smaller and affected operation, sources have claimed that the airline has worked on a business plan to return to the skies with a smaller fleet, about four aircraft less than what is currently in its fleet.
“The airline has 27 aircraft which were operating till 2 May,” a person aware of the situation said to The Economic Times. “It has 51 and 37 departure slots at the main airports of Delhi and Mumbai. There is a plan to resume operation as early as possible but it will be with a truncated schedule.”
“Proving all the assistance we can”
Go First said it is committed to assisting the passengers affected by the axed flights.
“We acknowledge the flight cancellations might have disrupted your travel plans and we are committed to providing all the assistance we can,” the airline said. “As you are aware, the company has filed an application for immediate resolution and revival of operations. We will be able to resume bookings shortly. We thank you for your patience.”
Passengers sound off
While the carrier said refunds would be issued “shortly,” one passenger has allegedly waited longer than a week and has yet to receive their refund.
“Hi @GoFirstairways, my flight for 03 May got cancelled due to your operational issues […],” the traveler wrote on Twitter. “I have raised a request for a refund on the same day, your customer care advisor said it will be refunded within 24hrs, I still haven’t received my money.”
