Bombardier is continuing its drive to be considered for a Canadian military contract for new surveillance aircraft. The Canadian firm will team up with defense contractor General Dynamics in the hopes of offering an alternative to the leading option, the Boeing Poseidon P-8A. Used by numerous allies, this jet is based on the Boeing 737NG.
Not giving up
On April 1st we reported that Bombardier wanted to be considered in the endeavor to replace the Royal Canadian Air Force’s (RCAF) aging fleet of 14 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora patrol aircraft – four-engined turboprops that have been serving the nation’s air force since the 1980s. The Canadian firm is offering a modified version of its Global 6500 business jet to be the next Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft (CMMA).
On March 27th the Canadian government announced that the Boeing P-8A Poseidon was the sole aircraft considered to be a suitable candidate with an official statement reading:
